Don Locke’s Hazy & The 18th is an interstellar fever dream — part sci-fi odyssey, part absurdist comedy, and entirely unlike anything you’ve read before. Imagine The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy having tea with Alice in Wonderland on a windswept Scottish island.

Hazy & The 18th - This book is a delightfully strange and imaginative sci-fi adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It blends cosmic chaos with witty humor, quirky characters, and unexpected heart, making the journey feel fun and unpredictable.

This is the second book I've read now by Don Locke, and like his other book The Afterlife and Times of Femi...Hazy and The 18th is a clever and satirical look at a complex topic. This book starts with mysterious lights in Scotland before turning into a crazy journey into outer space. There are lots of unexpected twists and Don has a great command of diction, it was a pleasure to read.

Hazy & The 18th - The whole story has a wild Hitchhiker’s-meets-Wonderland vibe. It’s funny, chaotic, and much smarter than it first seems. I loved the humor, the odd bits of wisdom that pop up, and the imagination behind every twist. It’s strange in the best way, full of heart, and unlike anything else I’ve read.

The Afterlife & Times of Femi Yukimo is such a thought-provoking and reflective read.

The premise really stayed with me; the idea of choosing who you spend eternity with while encountering everyone whose life you’ve touched (even in the smallest ways) made me pause and think deeply about my own life. It had me wondering how I would feel, who I would choose, and what moments might matter most if I were in Femi’s position.

I especially appreciated how the story explores the hidden realities of people; the quiet kindnesses, unintended hurts, and the lasting impact of seemingly minor interactions. Watching Femi navigate Purgatory while uncovering the mystery of her death is compelling, and her emotional journey feels authentic and engaging throughout.

This is one of those books that lingers with you after you finish, in the best way.

Highly recommend!

The Afterlife & Times of Femi Yukimo - It is humorous, revealing, entertaining and a thought provoking concept, with dilemmas. Reminiscent of Pratchett style of writing. It kept me hooked from the beginning and highly recommended.
